Changes to the UKHO AVCS service

Overview

From July 2013 the AVCS service is introducing a new format DVD and changes to comply with the new IHO security system S63 v1.1 (secures the S57 data). The old and new services will be run in parallel until the end of September 2013.

seaPro and AVCS

Provided you have the latest version of seaPro (v9.1541 or v10. 1541 or higher), you just need to choose the type of download (DVD or CD) or physical media as you do now. seaPro automatically supports the old and new systems .

If downloading - You will need ISO decoding software to install on to your hard disk or CD/DVD burning software.

An example of ISO decoding software is the open source 7zip
http://www.7-zip.org/

Reason for changes
The security certificate used in the S63 system runs out during 2013 and the IHO (International Hydrographic Office) is mandating the use of S63 1.1 by the end of 2013.

Change in DVD format and CD distribution format

The UKHO has also decided to change the format of the DVD so as to contain both base cells and updates which will require a weekly download of about 5GBytes!

Alternatively physical DVDs can be supplied for the cost of delivery and handling fee, this will increase the time it takes to get updates to the ship.

They are maintaining the CD weekly download service.
Recommendation is to continue downloading the weekly CD's

Required action:

Make sure you are using latest v9 or v10 of the software (v9.1541  or v10.1541).
